O meu pais nativo/ My Native Land

Alt Title:
A coragem dos desertos./The courage of the deserts

O meu pais nativo
O meu lindo Portugal
Continua sempre vivo
Num sonho sem igual

My native country
My beautiful Portugal
Stays always alive
In a dream without equal

Pais nobre e leal
Que temos no coracao
Longe da Terra Natal
Nos fala a imaginacao.

Country, noble and loyal
That we have in our hearts
Far away from our native land
Speaks to our imagination.

Cortando os Oceanos
Deu novos mundos ao Mundo
Velhinho de muitos anos
Com sentimento profundo

Cutting the Oceans
Gave new worlds to the World (Camoes reference!!)
Old of many years/ Many years old
With a feeling of profundity/Profound sentiment

Como o Sol no horizonte
Que alumia a todo o instante
Assim es meu Portugal
Neste coricao de imigrante

Like the Sun on the horizon
That illuminates all the time
So is my Portugal
In this immigrant's heart

Os teus campos em flor
Sao um canot de alegria
Que dao luz a nossa alma
No meio da nostalgia.

Your blooming fields
Are a song of happiness
That gives light to our souls
In the midst of our nostalgia.

E se um dia la voltarmos
Recebe-nos de bracos abertos
Porque os Oceanos nos deram
A coragem dos desertos.

And if one day we go back
Receive us with open arms
Because the Ocean gave us
The courage of the deserts.

Longe do meu pais/Far From My Country

Longe do meu pais
Alem no horizonte
Onde o Arco iris
Aparece sobre a fonte

Far from my country
There in the horizon
Where the Rainbow
Appears over the fountain

E onde a saudade
Impera a todo instante
Lembrando-nos sempre
O fado do Imigrante

And where the saudade
Reigns all the time
Reminding us always
Of Fado (Song) of the Immigrant

Um Portugal distante
Cheio de luz e de cor
No meio dos Oceanos
Trouxe-nos alegria e dor

A distant Portugal
Full of light and color
In the middle of the oceans
Brought us happiness and pain

Longe da Patria distante
Esta Escola Portuguesa
Sera um elo de amor
Num abraco de beleza

Far away from the distant homeland
This Portuguese school
Will be a love link (ring)
In a beautiful hug

Singra sempre confiante
Nao a deixeis maltratar

Beautiful Portuguese language
That I was taught to love
Keep going, always confident
Don't let it be maltreated/mistreated

Na turbulencia dos costumes
desta terra hospitaleira
Nao a deixem naufragar
Para nos, sempre a primeira

In the turbulence of the behavior
Of this hospitable land
Don't let it be castaway
For us, it will always be number one (first)

Cabe a Escola Portuguesa
Faze-la reconhecer
Com alegria, fe e amor
Vamos aprender a ler.

It's the responsibility of the Portuguese School
To make it (the language) known
With happiness, faith and love
Let us learn how to read.

CHRISTMAS TREE

Linda arvore de Natal
Ainda ontem adornada (enfeitada?)
Hoje, as outras igual
No passeio desprezada.

Beautiful Christmas Tree
Still yesterday adorned
Today, like the others
Abandoned at the sidewalk

Com excitamento encontrada
No centro da casa erguida
De luzes iluminda
Como estava tao garrida.

Found with excitement
Placed in the middle of the house
The lights lit
It was so festive.

Cheia de forma e de cor
Com sinos e bolas de encantar
Recordacoes, anjos de amor
Lembrancas, um nunca mais acabar

Full of shape and of color
With bells and balls enchanted
Souvenirs, love angels
Memories, there is no end to it

Para o ano outra vira
Todos dirao, ainda e melhor
Assim e a vida a passar
A Esperenca e sempre maior

Next year, another one will come
Everybody will say, this is even better
So is the passing life
Hope is always bigger.

The Other Side of The Coin

Autobiography (Incomplete? Short Story?)

O Outro Lado da Medalha/The Other Side of the Coin

The life of a woman immigrant, in America, which was different from the others.

She arrived, with one daughter who completed one year only after arriving, dedicated all her life taking care of the kids and the house.

While her husband was working 12 hours a day, to be able to support the children of their love, because another four had been born, she was all by herself at home with her thoughts and her saudades (longings/memories).

Life without them was inconceivable, one hour wouldn't pass, not even a minute, that she didn't have them in her mind, there was no social reunions, or friendships, that would make her leave them, (;) the vacations were spent in trips (Note alliteration) to the beaches and historic places.

p2

It was so good when everybody together, a girl, three boys and after another girl, we all would go to a Festa/party, to a Procession, or to a festival that reminded us of the Festas, Processions and Festivals of her homeland.

But they grew up, leaving the house that was their nest, opening the wings to the New World that tempted them and by their turn creating family.

After with two young ones still at home, she had two grandchildren that were the continuation of her life as wife, mother and grandmother. [THUS AFTER JENNIFER AND MICHAEL WERE BORN]

In the hours of depression, she had her doubts, was it worth it?

She didn't have too many things that the others were ambitious for, no jewels no dresses, or expensive furniture

For the Twins- Minhas netinhas queridas

FOR THE TWINS!!

Minhas netinhas queridas
Lindos botoes duma Rosa
Neste dia dos seus baptizados
Nao ha outras mais formosas

Que Deus vos abencoe sempre
Agora e pela vida fora
Guardando en vossos caracoes
A santidade desta hora

Depois de tantos sofrimentos
Por que tendes passado
Deus nos deu esta alegria
Ao nosso coracao torturado

Mais uma vez lhe pidemos
Senhor, ouvi as nossas preces
E que a este dia tao lindo
Se sigam outras benesses (good things)

Os dias se aproximam
Em que devemos ser felizes
Que Deus nos ajude
Perdoando alguns deslizes

The days are nearing
For us to be happy
For God to help us
Forgive some lapses

Culminando a sua vontade
De algun dia ser alguem
Honarando a comunidade

Dezanimos e contrariedades
Finalmente ve coroados

After many battles and things that make you weary
Disappointments and obstacles
Finally crowned
Your successes and opportunities
